Delegating Effectively: Manage Delegation from Start to Finish

Length:  One day or two half-days

Delegating appropriate tasks is a critical workplace skill; it frees the delegator to focus on other responsibilities and develops skills in those to whom tasks are delegated. Delegation is not abdication, though. Successful delegation requires strong influencing skills, a well-designed plan, and comprehensive follow-up. This workshop will provide you with an opportunity to select a real-life task that you should delegate and work through the complete planning and implementation process.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Describe the benefits of delegation to the delegator and the recipient of the delegation
  • Identify tasks to delegate to others
  • Select appropriate people to accept delegated tasks
  • Influence others to accept delegated tasks
  • Create a plan for delegation that includes appropriate training and follow-up checkpoints
  • Hold a delegation meeting that prepares the recipient to perform a delegated task
